Curly Flat's Macedon Ranges winery is one of the coldest vineyard sites in Australia, so it's little wonder they chose to focus on Chardonnay and Pinot Noir when they established Curly Flat in the early 1990's. Curly Flat has been one of our long-time favourite Australian Pinot Noirs and we've keenly observed the reputation of this Macedon Ranges winery continue to soar. The 2024 vintage marks the 27th vintage of Curly Flat Pinot Noir.
Silky, expressive, and layered, this 2024 Curly Flat Estate Pinot Noir opens with lifted aromas of dark cherry, raspberry, blackberry, dried herb and Asian spice. The palate is medium-bodied, vibrant and expressive, with layers of of red fruits, silky tannins and some textured complexity. Another benchmark cool-climate Pinot Noir from Curly Flat that will provide plenty of enjoyment over the coming decade.
"94+ Points. Interesting that vine age is from 5 to 32 years of age, likely due to some new clones being included in the mix. The clonal selection is MV6, 114, 115, DSV12, Mariafeldt (a Swiss clone), and 777. 25% new oak. 15% whole bunch. Harvested from the 13th to the 24th of March. Look at me trying to be all grown up with my introductions! Cherry, raspberry, quite spicy, a light charcoal character here too, along with some dried rose and amaro herb perfume, and light cedar/vanilla oak. It’s medium-bodied, quite firm in tannin, spicy and slightly nutty, with a fresh and twiggy finish of excellent length. In particular, I like the cool sort of ‘mineral’ character it offers. It’s a very good release. Tasted: Feb26. 13% alc. Screwcap Drink: 2027 - 2036+"- Gary Walsh, The Wine Front.
