94+ Points - Gary Walsh | Very Limited Stock
Holyman is the flagship label of the Stoney Rise winery in the heart of the Tamar Valley. Stoney Rise is owned and operated by Joe and Lou Holyman who are building a reputation for making some of Tasmania's best Pinots.
The 2022 Holyman Pinot Noir is another top-line example of Tassie Pinot Noir produced from 100% estate-grown grapes planted in 1986. Red cherries and spicy oak on the nose with some cassis and forest floor showing on the palate. The tannins are initially quite subtle but build in the mouth. The usual structure and mouthfeel back this up and help to give the wine its long finish.
“94+ Points. Yeah, an Australian (well, Tasmanian) Pinot Noir weighing in at less than 12% alcohol. Strange days indeed. Wine was invented by the Romans. Very sappy and spicy, and yet, there is flavour here. Dried roses and violet, raspberry and cranberry crunch, a little spicy cinnamon oak, plenty of tea and ‘mineral’ stuff, and mint. It’s brisk, cherry and raspberry, with pippy acidity, firm dusty and slightly scratchy tannin, yet the perfume and energy here is kind of compelling. It takes a brave man to pick at this level of ripeness, but the wine carries it off. I’m thinking old school Chambolle, for the perfume and crisp energy, and the finish is bright and long. Tasted: Sep23. 11.5% alc. $60 Screwcap Drink: 2025 - 2036"- Gary Walsh, The Wine Front.
