95 Points | "Truly exceptional value"- Marcus Ellis
Dune is the project of Duncan and Peter Lloyd; the next generation of this famous winemaking family of Coriole fame. Sourcing fruit from a single vineyard in the Blewitt Springs sub-region of McLaren Vale, Dune is quickly establishing itself as one of the region's wineries to watch.
The 2023 Dune Blewitt Springs Shiraz is afforded plenty of care of attention, made using a combination of whole-bunch, whole-berry and crushed fruit, which was matured in seasoned oak for 12 months. This has resulted in a medium bodied, savoury and textured wine packed with plenty of plush red fruit, layers of mulberry, dark cherry, licorice and some dark chocolate notes. A delicious drinking Shiraz with excellent complexity and impressive length, this is an absolute bargain at this price.
"95 Points. Fermented with whole bunches, whole berries and crushed fruit, with 12 months in seasoned foudre (75%) and hogsheads (25%). Darkly wrought fruit, spicy and savoury, though not cresting out of medium weight, with a refined array of red fruits emerging with air. Powdered spices - star anise, allspice, clove, cassia - black cherry, dark-roast coffee bean, lavender, violet and nori. Delicious and, like all the Dune wines, truly exceptional value. $28. 114.2% alc. Screwcap. Drink: 2025 - 2033"- Marcus Ellis, Halliday Wine Companion.
"There’s so much to like about these Dune wines. Stylish (visually as well) and well-priced. Lots of perfume and exotic spice, some black olive and dried herbs, fresh blackberry and cherry. It’s medium-bodied, supple in fine-grained tannin, has a sort of glassy acidity, quite meaty, with something of a fresh black berry tang, and a long gently grainy finish. Lovely wine. Understated, but complex. 93 Points Tasted: Nov24 14.2% alc. $28 Screwcap Drink: 2024 - 2030"- Gary Walsh, The Wine Front.
