94 Points - Dave Brookes
Located high in Tasmania's Derwent Valley, the Meadowbank vineyard has long been considered as one of Tasmania's most important vineyards. Now under the winemaking of the highly credentialed Peter Dredge, Meadowbank continue to produce a stunning array of wines.
Meadowbank’s award-winning past with Syrah dates to the estate’s oldest vines that we planted in 1974. These vines were famously the source of the 2011 Jimmy Watson-winning 2010 Glaetzer- Dixon Mon Père Shiraz. The 2023 Meadowbank Syrah is made with a portion from these 50-year-old vines, along with fruit from a block planted in 2015.
The product of an outstanding 2023 vintage conditions for Meadowbank, this is another beautifully elegant, ethereal rendition of Tasmanian Syrah. Unashamedly light, the highly refined tannins strike a balance with the punch of acid that speaks of the cool climate in which these grapes grew. Another stunning Meadowbank Syrah which will only enhance the reputation of this wine.
“94 Points. A magenta-hued syrah that shows pepper-dusted red and dark fruits along with hints of exotic spice, snapped twigs and amaro herbs, wildflowers, dried citrus rind, blueberry pastries, sandalwood and dried cranberry. Airy, detailed and energetic with a captivating, bunchy complexity and filigreed tannins providing gentle, powdery support. There's a tonic-like quality to the sapid, mineral line... and by tonic I mean it's good for you. If you get my drift.”- Dave Brookes, Halliday Wine Companion.
