Nestled in Hahndorf in the heart of the cool-climate Adelaide Hills, Sidewood is the largest certified sustainable winery in the region. Wines are made at their state of the art winery by the highly acclaimed Darryl Catlin, who was previously a winemaker at Shaw and Smith.
This 2024 Sidewood Estate Adelaide Hills Pinot Noir is crafted from hand-picked grapes from low yielding vines at Sidewood's Mappinga Road, Charleston and Ironstone Road vineyards. Exotic aromas of wild strawberry and dark cherry with hints of forest floor and bay leaf. A seamless and elegant palate of fleshy red fruit with hints of violet and spice. Delicate tannins are framed by generous length and drive. An outstanding accompaniment to a duck or game dishes, with a side of wild mushrooms. Drinking beautifully now but will continue to evolve with careful cellaring.
"93 Points. From the Mappinga and Ironstone vineyards. Fermented on wild yeasts, a little whole bunch and whole berry, matured in large format French oak for eight months. Abundant perfume, red cherry, red apple, alpine herbs and bay. It is immediately juicy, the brightness of fruit a pleasant juxtaposition with stalky, bunchy notes. Tension here, but elegance, too, with umami elements - truffle, cured meat - providing optimal savoury balance. $35. Drink: 2026 - 2032. 12% alc. $35"- Katrina Butler, Halliday Wine Companion.
