With a history dating back to 1894, Wirra Wirra is a family-owned icon situated in the heart of South Australia's McLaren Vale wine region. Wirra Wirra's 'The Angelus' is reserved for exceptional parcels of cabernet sauvignon released each vintage to showcase the best of McLaren Vale.
The 2022 Wirra Wirra 'The Angelus' Cabernet Sauvignon opens with intense aromas of blackcurrant, dark plum, redcurrants, thyme and cloves. The palate displays wonderful structure with dark fruit and coffee flavours, dried herb notes and a restrained coil of tannin leading to a long finish. Another beautiful example of McLaren Vale Cabernet with long-term cellaring potential.
"94 Points. Another cool year, with a couple more to follow. This opens with a classic herbal overlay of hedgerow, dried sage and green pepper over tart blackcurrant, redcurrant, damson and mulberry. There’s also tobacco leaf, black tea, cedar and currant. It’s coiled now, tightly wound, the nexus of tannin and acidity cinching all in. This promises to be a fine, medium-weight ‘claret’ style that should age well, and it should be showing that potential better on release. 14% alc.
