95 Points - Katrina Butler
Nestled in Hahndorf in the heart of the cool-climate Adelaide Hills, Sidewood is the largest certified sustainable winery in the region. Wines are made at their state of the art winery by the highly acclaimed Darryl Catlin, who was previously a winemaker at Shaw and Smith.
The 2025 Sidewood Adelaide Hills Pinot Gris is produced from sustainably farmed and hand-picked grapes grown on Sidewood's Charleston and Oakbank vineyards. Opening with aromas of Corella pear, rosewater and ginger, the palate is textural and packed with flavours of white nectarine and quince, with a lovely subtle nutty complexity.
"95 Points. A classic and impressive example of pinot gris. A varietally persuasive nose of white florals and spice with plenty of pear, crystallised ginger and lemon curd. Such a smart wine; a portion of the fruit was wild fermented in large format French oak, for the promise of texture and intrigue. Swills of stone fruit, white nectarine and peach, together with a blanched almond nuttiness. The spiced pear and the texture shine true and pure. A whole and intentional expression of gris. $26. 12.6% alc. Drink: 2025 - 2033. Screwcap"- Katrina Butler, Halliday Wine Companion.
