96 Points - James Halliday | Limited Stocks
Established in 2012, Bondar Wines is the vision of husband and wife team Andre Bondar and Selina Kelly, who are based out of the iconic Rayner vineyard in McLaren Vale. In a relatively short period of time Bondar has made a big impression on the Australian wine scene, including being named James Halliday's 'Best New Winery' in his 2017 Australian Wine Companion.
Always a hugely popular wine, the 2020 Bondar 'Junto' is a blend of Grenache (68%), Shiraz (10%) and Mataro (9%) with small amounts of Carignan, Cinsaut and Counoise. All grapes were hand-picked from old vineyards throughout McLaren Vale, gently handled in the winery and aged in old French oak.
The blend is put together with the idea that Grenache is the hero, with Shiraz adding supporting flesh and the Mataro spice, structure and tannin. Another brilliant rendition of this classic blend, this is a vibrant, fresh red wine with plenty of personality, and a wonderful level of drinkability. Stocks are limited and given the strong following of this winery, likely to sell out quickly.
"96 Points. 68/ 10/ 9/ 7/ 5/ 1% grenache/ shiraz/ mataro/ carignan/ cinsaut/ counoise. Old vines; hand picked; élevage in old oak. Bright, clear crimson; a perfumed, red-fruited, spiced bouquet lights the way, the palate making off with this opening by adding high-quality tannins. Whether or not a shotgun marriage, it comes together in glistening unison. $28. 13.7% alc. Drink by 2031. Screwcap"- James Halliday, winecompanion.com.au.
