95 Points - Dave Brookes | RRP $29
Brave Souls is a collaboration featuring the impressive winemaking duo of Simon Cowham and Corey Ryan, who are notably the names behind the highly acclaimed Sons of Eden. The name is inspired by the story of the famous 'Admella' shipwreck of 1859 and those who risked their lives to help the survivors.
The 2022 Brave Souls The Whaler Shiraz is made from a blend of grapes grown in the Barossa Valley (75%) and Eden Valley (25%). The blend of Barossa vineyards provides a complex array of flavours; the Barossa Valley component delivering fleshy dark red berry fruit flavours and density, while the Eden Valley contributes elegance and wild berry aromatic lift.
An aromatic and mouth-wateringly delicious Shiraz, this delivers layers of ripe red fruits, wild berry and plums, along with some subtle spice and fine silky tannins. A Barossa Shiraz of wide appeal, this offers wonderful value drinking at this limited-time discounted price.
"95 Points. Here's a juicy, purpley-splashed little wine with a thick swell of beautifully ripe plum, blueberry and boysenberry fruits. It sports some gorgeous floral tones - I'm thinking jasmine, citrus blossom and dragonfruit flowers - along with notes of blueberry pie, ironstone, a touch of pepper and charcuterie. It's pretty as a picture and a great role model for contemporary Barossa shiraz at a super-sharp price. Great joyful, bouncy drinking. $29 RRP. 14.5% alc. Screwcap. Drink: 2023 - 2030."- Dave Brookes, Halliday Wine Companion.
