96 Points - Ray Jordan | Last Stocks
Castle Rock is situated in the Great Southern region of Western Australia, with a reputation for exceptional Rieslings that are elegant in their youth and develop complexity and further palate weight with age.
This 2020 Castle Rock Porongurup Riesling is the 34th vintage of this wine, which has now established itself among Australia's truly great Rieslings. The palate is tightly wound structure that is enveloped by beautiful rich lime juice fruit characters. This fruit richness provides generosity and succulence with the natural acidity adding lovely structure, finesse and length. Lively, crisp and with an attractive delicacy now, this wine will blossom with age.
"96 Points. This must be one of the very best rieslings Rob Diletti has made. Stunning. It has a deep intensity of spicy citrusy fruit delivered which such poise and ease. The minerally wet pebble characters of the palate capture the best qualities of this variety. Powerful and with tremendous ageing potential - a cracker"- Ray Jordan, Winepilot.
"96 Points. Finely chiseled lime fruit with crushed rock and a twist of lemon on the nose. The palate has Incredible concentration of citrus fruits that is met by taut lines of acidity that give impressive length. Cut flowers add some contrast and feigned richness to finish. A wonderful release as expected from one of Australia’s finest producers of the variety."- Patrick Eckel, winereviewer.com.au.
"94 Points. When riesling is as clean, concentrated and vibrant as this it’s hard not to use the word mouth-watering. Indeed I recall someone saying that the word mouthwatering should be exclusively used in reference to riesling, and never in any other context. There are lemon sorbet, talc, slate and floral influences in this wine and from the first sip it had me entirely on board. It has all the dry-but-juicy length to more-than-match all that has come before. It’s brilliant buying/drinking. Tasted: Dec20 12.4% alc. $25 Screwcap Drink: 2020 - 2026+"- Campbell Mattinson, The Wine Front.
The vineyard is situated 40km north east of Albany and 30km south east of Mount Barker, on a cool and elevated northerly aspect. This results in well ripened cool climate varieties producing intensely flavoured wines.
