96 Points - Dave Brookes
Dawson James is an impressive partnership between the experienced winemaker duo of Peter Dawson and Tim James. With grapes grown on the Meadowbank vineyard, approximately 60 kms northwest of Hobart, they continue to produce brilliant examples of cool-climate Chardonnay and Pinot Noir.
The 2021 Dawson James Chardonnay is another pristine Tasmanian Chardonnay with lifted aromas of citrus peel, grapefruit with the complexity of struck flint and freshly baked pastry. Flavours are tightly wound with a core of sweet lemon curd, cream and cashew, finishing with lively long soft acidity. The relatively low alcohol, vibrant fruit intensity and natural acidity should ensure this has a long life ahead of it.
"96 Points. The 2021 comes across as a little more coiled and linear when compared to the ’20 release. Pure citrus and stone fruits riding on rails of mineral-laden acidity shoing hints of white flowers, struck match, soft spice, almond paste and gentle whiffs of marzipan and crushed stone. There's a relentless minerally velocity to the wine and a sense of umami and sapidity to its form as it gracefully disappears from view. Super stuff. $72. 12.5% alc. Drink: 2024 - 2031. Screwcap"- Dave Brookes, Halliday Wine Companion.
