In a relatively short period of time, First Drop Wines has gained a reputation as one of most popular, emerging wine producers in South Australia. Based at the ‘Home of the Brave’ in the Barossa, First Drop is making wines with flavour, texture and personality; from fruit sourced from unique vineyards throughout the Adelaide Hills, McLaren Vale and Barossa.
This 2017 First Drop Mother's Ruin Cabernet Sauvignon is First Drop's "ode to the luncheon claret", offering a restrained, well-balanced expression of McLaren Vale Cabernet Sauvignon. Packed with plenty of cassis, plum and black fruit flavours this is a well structured and approachable Cabernet that is ready to be enjoyed now.
"Deep ruby with some brick at the rim. After a run of Shirazes, this is so distinctive in its unashamed Cabernet character. Leafy, minty cassis with a strong cassis-leaf fresh aroma. Dry, super-fine tannins giving shape to this lovely Cabernet fruit, which is cool and fresh. Mouth-watering and marked by capsicum vegetal flavour but not underripe. Lovely fragrant Cabernet. 17/20 Points." - Julia Harding MW, JancisRobinson.com.
"Impressive for the purity and intensity of the blueberry, wild strawberry and framboise flavors, this red is fresh and juicy, with green tea, black pepper and fresh loamy accents, plus spice and tobacco grace notes, on a smooth frame. 90 Points. Drink now through 2030" - MaryAnn Worobiec, Wine Spectator, October 15, 2020.
