95 Points - Philip Rich
Since the early 2000's, Medhurst Estate has been crafting some of the Yarra Valley's finest wines. With the sole objective of making the best wine possible, careful vineyard management ensures yields are low, averaging two tonnes per acre and providing intensely flavoured fruit.
The 2023 Medhurst Estate Pinot Noir is another top class Yarra Valley Pinot Noir from Medhurst. Vibrant lifted aromas of violets and blue fruited with complex spice notes on the nose. The palate delivers pure fruits and even tannins. It’s a compact and balanced vintage with terrific acid framework. The finish is long and fruit driven. A powerful wine that will mature gracefully over the next 4-6 years.
"95 Points. Hand picked from two blocks, one north-facing and one partially south-facing. About 10% whole bunches in the final cuvée; 30% new wood. A light, bright crimson cherry. Leaps out of the glass with its bouquet of cranberries, redcurrants and rosehips together with some spice and floral top notes. Brightly fruited on the palate too, with fine, gently crunchy tannins and vibrant, palate-cleansing acidity. Very nicely done. 13% alc. Drink: 2024 - 2032"- Philip Rich, Halliday Wine Companion.
"93 Points. Morello cherries, pomegranate molasses and rosehip. Exotic asian spices of star anise, five spice and fenugreek seed. Oaks show maple leaf and cedar backed by espresso coffee and mace. A thorough line of gathering acidity picks upon some strawberry and rose petals. The wine is quite pure with subtle oak spice on the palate. It fits snugly in the crunchy and alluring Pinot Noir scene. This would be ideal with a speck laced morel mushroom risotto. $55."- Shanteh Wale, Wine Pilot.
