Tim Shand heads a dynamic, progressive young winemaking team at Punt Road; a winery long regarded as a standard-bearer for wines of character, drinkability and a clear, proud Yarra Valley stamp. Under the winemaking of Tim Shand, the quality of wines made at Punt Road have never been better - this 2019 Punt Road Cabernet Sauvignon is evidence of this.
A lovely vibrant ruby colour and pretty serious on the nose - everything you’d hope for; cigar box, redcurrant, blackcurrant and, as it wakes in the glass, some pretty floral notes. Same on the palate, where it grows and spreads really nicely. Medium-bodied, attractive fruit with red-spectrum notes quite prominent. Plenty of tannins but almost a fluffy element to them. Good length, with lovely fruit and perfume.
Punt Road remains today in the heart of cosmopolitan Melbourne. A bridge now stands where the punt once was, and the vineyards have been re-established throughout the Yarra Valley, where the grapes for this wine are grown today.
