95 Points - James Halliday | Top 100 Wines 2023
Established in 1982, Scotchmans Hill is located in the heart of the Bellarine Peninsula and has long been regarded as one of the region's premier wine producers.
This 2022 Scotchmans Hill Chardonnay is another complex and lively wine showing nectarine and grapefruit aromas rounded out by creamy notes and nutty oak. The palate is fresh with a mineral edge of white peach and grapefruit making way to a savoury mid palate and cashew nut oak finish. There is tremendous drive and structure with this wine which will reward cellaring over the next 6 to 8 years.
"There were crop losses during flowering before ideal vintage conditions through to harvest. Wild fermented, and matured for 12 months in French barriques. The bouquet heralds an equally complex palate charging through to the long finish, cashw and grapefruit in the vanguard. $45. 13% alc. Drink to 2032"- James Halliday, Halliday Top 100 Wines 2023.
