96 Points - Ray Jordan
Produced largely from the 100-year-old Shiraz vines of the Clare vineyard of the same name, Aberfeldy Shiraz is Tim Adams' flagship wine. Sometimes referred to as "Clare Valley's Grange" this is widely regarded as a benchmark for the best Clare Valley Shiraz has to offer.
The 2018 Tim Adams Aberfeldy is again in superb form displaying great depth and length of flavour. The palate is full bodied with dark berry conserve flavours, balanced oak and firm tannin generated from a dry, low yielding vintage. The wine has persistent length of sweet fruit and oak, with power, elegance and great finesse.
"96 Points. The flagship red wine for the Clare Valley’s Tim Adams and in this year, which was very good, it rises to new heights. Lavish and plush dark chocolate and plummy licorice-like fruit delivered with concentration and power. The creamy oak comes from the 24 months in American oak hogsheads. Too much you ask – no way. This concentrated fruit power laps it up and then some. Brilliant bright colour and a grainy palate. There’s a faint hint of mint and sage bush which is a regional character. Overall, it’s a cracker. $65. Drink: 2022 - 2042"- Ray Jordan, winepilot.com
